DJ Supreme (Jon Malone) has worn many hats throughout his experiences in the entertainment industry. It’s his passion for deejaying and producing that allows Supreme to present his artistic talents. DJ Supreme’s sets fuse classic hip hop with funk, soul samples, Motown and classic rock as well as today’s hits. Hip hop legend Doug E. Fresh calls DJ Supreme “a hip hop encyclopedia”.
DJ Supreme was born and raised in Detroit, MI but made the south his home in 1989, which is when he made his first beat. His professional career began in 1995 when he moved to Los Angeles, CA to work as an A&R at Motown Records. In 1998, Supreme began a successful radio career in Birmingham, AL where he continues to be a staple. He is the host of The Classic Hip Hop Show for the past eight years. The show can currently be heard on SubstrateRadio.com.
As a producer, DJ Supreme has blessed some of the best artists with “souled out” beats displaying “Detroit sound with Southern sensibilities”. His sounds can be heard on a variety of diverse artists such as legendary P-Funk alum Amp Fiddler, neo soul star Raheem DeVaughn, and Chi-Town poet J – Ivy.
Lately, DJ Supreme has been making a soulful noise as a part of the hip hop group Shaheed and DJ Supreme. The Birmingham-based Communicating Vessels record label recently released their 3rd album Knowledge Rhythm and Understanding to great reviews and outstanding airplay throughout the world. Together they’ve rocked stages with international stars such as Raekwon the Chef, Stalley, Atmosphere, and Brother Ali. In the summer of 2014 Shaheed and DJ Supreme successfully toured the UK with Jurassic 5 and Dilated Peoples. They were also part of the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City in October of 2014.
